  • Learning the Paper Shredding Ropes

One of the biggest things that I did as a young college student was starting my own business instead of just working a regular summer job.  You see, I knew that the real money was in owning a business, and not working for "the man".

So, what I decided to do was create a mobile paper shredding service.  Now, there wasn't a company here in town that offered what I would offer, but after talking to some of the local business owners, I knew that there was a demand for it.

I started out just using a home shredder and I quickly learned that it wasn't the best choice.  Not only was the duty cycle inadequate, but since it could only do about five sheets per pass, which would mean that most of my jobs would take too long to be worth my time.

The personal shredder made it through the first couple of jobs, but I made it to the point where I needed something else.  Though most of my clients wished that I had a high security shredder, it was out of my price range that first year.  So, instead I picked up a Destroyit shredder.

Not only was it the best decision that I could make, but it made the difference between needing a student loan, or paying tuition for cash.  It was amazing how little time it took to get the job done with the right business equipment.
